Brave Train Employee Suffers Life-Threatening Wounds During Mass Stabbing Attack on High-Speed Train

A valiant railway staff member who intervened to save travelers during a mass stabbing attack on a high-speed train has sustained critical injuries, police stated on Sunday.

Particulars of the Terrifying Event

Surveillance video allegedly shows the staff member trying to halt the attacker as the train journeyed between Peterborough and Huntingdon in the county. Witnesses described a terrifying 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with injured passengers fleeing through carriages.

The suspect, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in detention for questioning. Police declared a major event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Crisis Reaction and Aftermath

The incident on the weekend led to 11 people being treated in hospital after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Several people have since been discharged from hospital.

A bystander recorded the individual waving a big knife and being shot with a Taser as he faced officers on the station. He was allegedly heard yelling, "End my life, end my life."

“This awful event has created broad consequences. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the brave employee of rail staff whose relatives are being supported by specialist personnel,” said a senior police officer.

Labor Reaction and Calls for Action

Rail associations were swift to commend staff and demand increased measures. One union leader stated he would be “requesting immediate meetings with authorities, rail employers and law enforcement to guarantee that we have the best possible support, tools and robust procedures in operation”.

Another association leader urged the train operator and authorities “to move quickly to examine security, to support the affected employees, and to ensure nothing like this occurs again”.

Operator Commended for Quick Action

The train driver who stopped the service at Huntingdon was reported as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been praised by union representatives for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“He didn’t halt the train in the center of two stops where it’s obviously difficult for the emergency services to reach, but he carried on going until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was almost already there,” explained a union official.

Additional Information

Police stated they got the first distress calls at 7:39 pm, and the service was forced to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One witness recounted initially wondering if the event was a Halloween prank, but soon realized from individuals' faces that it was serious.

Authorities have stated there is nothing to indicate the event was a terror-related incident and have asked the public to come forward with any further information.

Train operations on the impacted line are anticipated to experience delays until the following day, with travelers recommended to defer their journeys where possible.
